Intrinsically Safe PDT8100 & PPT2800 Portable Pen Based Data Collection Terminals

Symbol Technologies now extends enterprise mobility to hazardous locations with two new mobile solutions specifically engineered for use in hazardous environments. Symbol's intrinsically safe (I-Safe) products meet stringent certification requirements for use in hazardous locations such as those found in oil refineries, chemical plants and industrial sites where flammable gases, vapors or liquids may be present.

Two Models to Meet Diverse Needs

To best meet the needs of various industries and maximize application efficiency, Symbol offers two I-Safe solutions: the pen-based PPT 2800 and key-based PDT 8100. The PDT 8100 is available with either a 28-key numeric keypad, or a 37- or 47- key alphanumeric keypad. Additionally, a user-accessible CompactFlash™ card slot in the PDT 8100 enables expansion as well as additional data storage and backup.

In addition to Underwriters Laboratory (UL) and Cenelec certification for hazardous locations, the I-Safe PDT 8100 and PPT 2800 are sealed to IP54 standards, have an extended operating temperature and withstand repeated 4ft./1.2 m drops to concrete, thus delivering the rugged durability needed for today's mobile workers. Both devices feature the Intel® StrongArm processor and Microsoft's Pocket PC operating system and offer 64 MB RAM and 32 MB ROM. This plus a crisp 1/4 VGA display, integrated scan engine and wireless local area network (WLAN) communication options enable the Symbol I-Safe handhelds to maximize user productivity at the point of activity.

With UL Class 1 Div 1 Groups CD, Class 1 Div 2 Groups ABCD and Class 1 Div 1 Groups CD and Cenelec Eex ibIIC T4 ATEX certification, the I-Safe PDT 8100 and I-Safe PPT 2800 safely go where needed. Around the world, Symbol I-Safe handhelds enable mobility in hazardous environments for applications such as reading levels at a tank farm, performing condition monitoring on a pipeline, or taking inventory in a chemical warehouse. Refinery operators can monitor assets while accessing remote trend data, maintenance technicians in a chemical plant can wirelessly interface directly with MAXIMO or SAP PM to initiate work orders and check order status, and remote field engineers can capture, retain and analyze vital process data at the point of activity.
