SE2000 OEM Integrated Barcode Scanning Solution
A New Dimension in Performance for Embedded 2-D and 1-D Scanning Solutions

Symbol Technologies introduces a revolutionary scan engine that will expand the power of your OEM systems: the SE 2000 Scan Engine. This miniaturized, high-performance laser scan engine incorporates leading edge technology for outstanding performance on both 2-D and 1-D symbologies, enabling you to design totally integrated scanning solutions.

Symbol offers the SE 2000 Scan Engine Series in two configurations to meet your diverse product needs. When you design a system with host supported decoding, you'll want the speed and durability of the SE 2000. This compact scan engine reads both vertically and horizontally to capture 2-D and 1-D bar space information.

The SE 2000 scan engine is also available with Symbol's PL 220 decode engine. With built-in RS-232 communications and highly integrated custom electronics for decode assistance, the PL 220 offers fast 2-D and 1-D decode capabilities and easy system integration. Additional host interfaces are supported using Symbol's exclusive SynapseTM smart cables including keyboard wedge, Dual RS-232, OCIA and more.

PDF417: Much More than Meets the Eye

Developed by Symbol Technologies, PDF417 is a 2-D symbology that functions as a high-density, high-capacity "portable data file" to provide low-cost access to large amounts of information without the need to link to an external database. A single PDF417 symbol can encode more than a kilobyte of data - up to 100 times the capacity of a linear bar code of similar size. Entire shipping labels, manifests, equipment calibration information, vehicle registrations and much more all become instantly machine-readable using PDF417.

In fact, the Automotive Industry Action Group, the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, the U.S. Department of Defense, and other leading standards organizations have all selected PDF417 as their 2-D symbology standard.

Big Features in a Small Package

The miniature design [just 1.56" (40 mm) D x 1.32" (34 mm) W x .86" (22 mm) H] of the SE 2000 makes integration into your system easy. A host of additional features includes:

  • High-performance PDF417 and one-dimensional bar code scanning.
  • Retrocollective optical system providing high ambient light immunity.
  • Resonant scan element - state-of-the-art scan element resonates at 560 scans per second to create motion without wear for unmatched reliability.
  • Adaptive raster pattern - automatically tailors the pattern to the height of the PDF417 symbol for maximum speed and efficiency.
  • Special aim modes - several options to make scanning easy and intuitive.
  • Broad working range.
  • Flexible mounting arrangement with optional mounting frame.
  • PL 220 decoder board with custom ASIC design - for fast decoding capability and easy system integration.
  • Built-in RS-232 output - for quick and easy system integration.

The SE 2000 Scan Engine Series from Symbol Technologies. It's the first scan engine to read both 2-D symbols and 1-D bar codes. You can rely on Symbol for innovative solutions for your OEM designs.
