With no external connectors, hinged pieces, doors or openings, the PTC-1800 is
built for the toughest environments. Standard features include a simplified
keypad, easy-to-read 1/8-VGA display, integrated bar code reader, IrDA port for
wireless printing and a high capacity Li-Ion battery pack. And, to accommodate
multi-tasking abilities typically enabled with multiple devices, the PTC-1800
allows users to toggle between multiple applications and phone calls without
disconnecting the caller or losing data.
Industry Standard Protocols
The PTC-1800 enables both voice and data communications over a wireless LAN and
incorporates the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) recommended H.323
protocols for real-time multimedia teleconferencing. Analog voice is converted
into digital voice packets and sent over the wireless LAN as data packets via
Built on open standards, interoperability is a key element of the PTC-1800.
Using industry-standard protocols, the PTC-1800 acts as a wireless telephone,
communicating in peer-to-peer mode across the wireless network to other
PTC-1800s and H.323 compliant devices. When coupled with an H.323 telephony
gateway, the PTC-1800 links to a site's telephony switch to place and receive
calls outside the wireless network.
Disruptive overhead paging can be replaced by using the PTC-1800 in Voice Alert
(walkie-talkie) or text messaging modes. Both modes can communicate to a single
user or a predefined group of users.
Industry Standard Architecture
Not only does the PTC-1800 communicate using Voice-over-IP, it also reads bar
codes and transmits data, making it the perfect multi-functional device for
today's mobile workforce. The PTC-1800 is based on an open architecture to
ensure seamless integration with legacy and e -commerce systems, and uses
Microsoft® Windows® CE, you're no longer limited to server-based applications.
In the familiar Win32 programming environment, you can build custom
applications using Microsoft Visual Basic, Visual C++, and PenRight!'s®
MobileBuilder™ cross-platform Rapid Application Development tool.
Connecting People to the Enterprise
User, developer and administrator friendly, the PTC-1800 is the ultimate
connectivity solution for the enterprise. Using the Internet browser option,
the PTC-1800 can be used to access e-mail and web pages; and it performs full
Transaction Processing & Information Management (including Internet,
database, POS and host system access as well as reference material).
The PTC-1800 supports AirBEAM2, which eliminates the need to manually track and
apply software revisions to device resident applications. When software updates
are required, AirBEAM2 automatically detects, deploys and manages them over the
wireless link. Additionally, the optional User Services Manager allows IT and
operations personnel to authorize information access from a single tool.
Administrators can establish user identification and authentication and
personalize each device at user log-on, enabling access to schedules, reminder
messages, e-mail, data applications and call lists
