In factory or warehouse applications where the cable restricts movement and cordless scanning is simply a better solution. The P470 is ideal in retail environments where a cabled scanner limits access beyond the counter area. With the cordless P470 there are no cable restraints so scanning heavy, oversized or bulk items that are difficult to place on the counter at checkout is a breeze!

The scanners weigh just 12 oz/336 gm and are rugged and comfortable to use and withstand repeated 6 ft/1.8m drops onto concrete. The industrial strength P370, sealed to IP54 specifications against windblown rain and dust, operates in a wide temperature range and enables data management in places ordinary scanners could not go before.

Tailor Applications with Ease

Because flexibility is the hallmark of the P370 and P470 cordless scanners, Symbol Technologies teamed it with MCL-Designer, an easy-to-use Windows-based application development tool. Using MCL-Designer's intuitive graphical user interface, even non-programmers can create custom programs. Applications can be simulated and debugged before they are downloaded to the scanner. The MCL interpreter is preloaded in memory.

Flexible Host Interface 

The base station for both versions features an integrated RS 232 and synapse interface for connectivity to many popular PC, POS and computer terminals so its easy to integrate the scanners into your existing data collection environment. In addition, replaceable interface cable modules make it easy to upgrade to new host terminals.

The base station functions as a holder as well as a battery recharge station. Batteries are recharged within four hours either in the scanner or removed and charged in a separate charger to maximize scanner use. We understand that the scanner has to last a full 8-hour shift so we integrated power-down circuitry that conserves battery power by turning the scanner off after successful data transmission.

For fast integration, both the P370 and P470 support the 123Scan setup utility software, a convenient Microsoft^® Windows^®-based program that helps reduce your start-up time and costs for these scanners. This free utility enables you to configure communication settings and enable/disable symbologies. It also assists you in generating advanced data formatting (ADF) rules to allow bar code data to be modified by the scanner before it is sent to the host application. The P370 and P470 scanners can be programmed via PC download or by scanning bar codes generated by the utility.

For added versatility, you can also purchase MCLTM-Designer software, a programmable architecture that extends scanner functionality. Even non-programmers can develop custom data management applications to harness the on-board computing power of these scanners. Further, MCL-Link communication software easily connects the P370 and P470 to your host. Capabilities include ODBC database connectivity plus the automation of frequent tasks such as nightly data downloads and look-up file updates.
