PDF417: Much More than Meets the Eye
Developed by Symbol Technologies, PDF417 is a 2-D symbology that functions as a high-density, high-capacity "portable data file" to provide low-cost access to large amounts of information without the need to link to an external database: a single PDF417 symbol can encode more than a kilobyte of data - up to 100 times the capacity of a linear bar code of similar size. Entire shipping labels, manifests, equipment calibration information, vehicle registrations and much more all become instantly machine-readable using PDF417.
